Project Overview
Have you ever been in the situation where someone asks you "I have the IP Address x.y.z with MAC address x:y:z having an address conflict. Can you tell me where mac address x:y:z is connected?" and you started to connect to your switches to find out on which port this devices are connected? Or even worse you are unable to answer that question due to total lack of information? Then Lanox might be for you. The project consist of different modules working together to reach the main goal which is to simplify network management on a local network basis. The main parts of the project are: - Collectors used to automatically discover devices on a local subnet to gather IP/MAC/Netbios and DNS name. At the moment it uses the SendArp request which has been introduced in Windows 2000 to resolve the mac address of an IP device. Please send me a short mail if you have something similar for Linux. Maybe we use pcap to create and ARP request packet in the future. - Web Interface The web interface makes it easy to connect to the Application on every machine that has an web browser installed in your enterprise. So the times are gone where you went 2 miles to the next patch panel just to realize that the documentation is out of date and most of the patches in your excel sheet are not what is really patched on your patch panel. |
Lanox is a Local Area Network Management system. It allows you to automatically scan nodes on your network segment and get their names and mac addresses. It also allows to scan your switches via SNMP and gather switch port data that automatically resolves a link between your network node and your switch port. |
